Praise and Prayer! We want to thank God for loving the Aukan people and for the dental training team exceeding our expectations in every way. Three Aukan men and one Saramaccan man was trained this past week in pulling teeth. All of them were believers but one. The non-Christian was a forty-five-year-old man who gave a testimony saying, he had become a Christian in his heart but he respects his mother and has to do the winti (Spiritual) practices for her as the son. He is waiting for her to come back from town to tell her before he says anything to the people in his culture. He said he wants to tell her about Christianity and wants her to follow Christ like him. He also said he has a friend who went to town and got a degree. He was always saddened that he could never get one, but now after the training he also has a certificate saying he has accomplished a trade. We are very thankful God loves the people and is empowering the believers in a trade that will provide money for them and their families. We are thankful God is showering His love and provisions on them. Please praise God with us and pray the people will see God in these men. Please also pray for them to grow in their faith, to share it with their patients and for the man's mother to become a believer. Thank you for your prayers. God heard and faithfully answered them. Also, we thank God for Terry and Phil Adday for their time in coming and training these men.

April 25, 2008

Terry, a missionary, dentist, and dear friend of ours along with another dentist, Phillip Aday, is coming to Suriname this week to train five people from the interior in dentistry. During the evening the team will be doing discipleship training with the new believers in Loabi. The team will be training four Aukaners and one Saramacaner. Four out of the five of them are Christians. The one non-Christian is very open and we believe God has him in this training for a purpose. Please pray for the team as they train and disciple. Please pray for the trainees as they learn dentistry, and pray for Kenneth, the non-Christian, to come to know Christ as his Savior.

April 05, 2008

Prayer Request This next week we have a team from Sterlingwood Church in Houston, TX coming to help with discipleship. This is Brittany’s parents’ church. Please pray for us as we work in discipling the church in Loabi every evening. We will also be doing evangelism and prayer walking in the neighboring villages. We are very excited about this trip. We expect God to do great things among the Aukan people. Please pray God will open up the hearts of the people to hear His word and come to know Him as their Savior. Praise Praise God for the team coming and working among the Aukan people. Praise God everyone is healthy and looking forward to going interior with the team.

January 08, 2008

We moved into another house over the Christmas holidays. We praise God the move went well. We have a lot of our things put up but still have not settled in completely. Please pray for us as we finish moving in and getting our things in order. Charles' mom, dad, aunt, brother and brother's girlfriend are coming this weekend for two weeks. We will be in the city for a few days then we will be taking them into the interior. Please pray for them to have safe travel to Suriname and that they will make it in on time. Please pray we will have a great time fellowshipping together. Brittany's mom and sister are coming the day after the Shirey's leave. They will be here for a week. Please pray for them to have safe travel and to make it to Suriname on time. Please pray we will have a great time fellowshipping with them.

December 06, 2007

The Aukan team praises God for all that He is doing among the Aukan people. The group of in the village of Loabi is continuing to meet and is going strong. They are joyful in their walk with Christ and love to meet and hear bible stories. Please pray the small group of believers will continue to meet and grow in Christ. Pray they will be baptized and will be bold in their witness to the people around them.

A believer named, Baa Joti, is growing stronger and more bold in his faith. He has been one of the more timid believers but has recently stepped out and started witnessing to others. He has even prayed in front of nonbelievers when they have been in need. Also, he prayed for food when he was without and asked the Lord to provide. He told the Lord his life was in the Lord's hands and would He provide some food if it was His will. A friend showed up at his door at one in the morning with not only food but Baa Joti's favorite food. We praise God for Baa Joti's growth. Please pray it will continue and for his witness to continue to grow more bold as he tells friends, family members and strangers about Christ. Pray that people may come to know Christ as their Savior as he witnesses to them.

Eye Team Praise Report!

Again, God is so faithful to the Aukan people. The volunteer team of five from Knoxville, Tennessee was a great success! The eye surgeon, Paul Froula and his team, Dana Froula, Chris Corby, Seth Miller, and Tiffany Glandon did twenty-eight cataract surgeries. They were able to pray with the patients before their surgery. One of the patients was a man named Um Longa. He is a new believer who has been meeting with three other new believers in front of his house for Bible study, prayer and worship. The team was able to do surgery on him successfully. The men on the team also met with Um Longa and two other Aukan men for Bible study in his village. We are thankful for your prayers and that the luggage did make it with the team (ha ha)! Please pray as the group of new believers continues to meet, grow in Christ and for them to reach out to others for Christ.

Medical Team Praise Report!

We praise God for the medical team!  We received the shipment of medication the day before the team arrived in Suriname. The team was able to work in the clinics alongside the clinic workers in three different villages for four days.  They saw an average of 375 patients and were able to leave medication for the clinics to use in the future.  This team was not only able to help medically, but also able to participate in prayer walking and evangelism.  We prayer walked five villages and were able to pray with the people and share Christ throughout the villages.  One man said he was not a Christian but knew the power of our God and wanted us to pray for him.  We want to thank God for the team members who came to Suriname and served God on this trip.  Also, thank you for your prayers, God heard and He faithfully answered them.

Prayer Requests:

We have a medical team coming next Friday, August 24. It consists of fifteen doctors, nurses, and other volunteers.  They have sent a shipment of medications and supplies through a local company to use in the interior, but the contact we have here in Suriname has not been able to locate the shipment. Please pray that the shipment will be located and clear customs quickly.

We have also been working in cooperation with a group called Medical Missions. This group provides health care to the interior of Suriname. We had two previous talks with the director of Medical Missions about bringing in a volunteer team. He was excited and positive about the cooperation and help. Now that we need a letter from him for the Director of Health of Suriname, he has told us that Medical Missions is not able to use short-term volunteers. So at this time we will not be able to work in cooperation with them.  The Director of Health for Suriname is out of the country and will not be back until Monday.  Please pray that when we meet with the Director of Health, she will allow us to work in the interior without a letter from Medical Missions. We praise God that He is in control and has this team coming for a reason.  Please pray for the team of fifteen who will be here in one week.  Please pray this will get worked out before they come and for the peace of mind for the team, and us.
